Irs Mileage Creates Controversy for Business
The company that used to work for almost ten years ago once had a very interesting situation with regard to paying employees for their mileage when driving for the company. Even though the company paid a rate different than the posted irs mileage rate many employees never said a word because the company compensated them well in a number of different ways. That was until we hired one new employee who immediately saw the discrepancy in milage rates and rose a red flag. He just noted that the rates were different and wanted to be compensated correctly. The company got angry and tried to avoid paying him the correct rate. The employee got a lawyer and as you can imagine it wasn’t a battle that lasted very long. The law is the law and the employee won. Now the company pays every one the correct rate, but they have dropped wages.
The New Car Tax Credit 2011 Extension Really Saved Us a Lot of Money
I dread doing taxes. We are fairly solidly middle class, which means we make just enough to really pay a nice chunk of change to Uncle Sam when tax time comes around. I was looking at our likely tax bill this year and, to be honest, I was getting pretty worried with how we were going to be able to pay for it. That all changed when I was reading online and found out about the new car tax credit 2011 extension. We had bought a new hybrid car last year and we were qualified for a big tax credit for the purchase. Our tax bill went from keeping me up at night worrying how we could possibly pay for it, to being something I was looking forward to because this year we would actually be getting money back from the government. Let me tell you, that is something I could get used to.
