Visit Alton Towers
The Alton Towers theme park in Staffordshire is one of The uk’s most popular and exciting tourist attractions – and a firm favourite for a family excursion.
Alton Towers has a wide variety of rides and activities – it’s not just huge petrifying roller coasters – so there’s something for all the family to enjoy.
Many of the large rides do have height limitations – so try to make sure that younger members of the family don’t set their heart on the largest rides until you check that they’re tall enough to be allowed on.
Fortunately there are ample alternative activities from kiddie’s rides like the Beastie, or children can test their abilities in the driving school.
Although many people go to Alton Towers for the famous rides, remember that there are also some beautiful gardens to enjoy, which may appeal to some members of the family. Alton Towers also has a water park on site – though this is actually a separate attraction and you’ll need separate tickets from the theme park.
A day at the Alton Towers Theme Park for the family can be quite expensive – but there are ways to reduce the expense: If you pre-book on the web, it’s a bit cheaper, so that obviously makes sense if you are able to plan your away day in advance. Don’t forget the family tickets and group discounts which can be significantly cheaper. Finally, a two-day ticket costs less than two single-day ones, so if you are able to go two days in a row, you can save loads.
Since there IS so much to do, why not consider staying at one of Alton Towers’ two hotels on site – they’re perfect if you want to spend more than one day at the park.
Rememberto check the Alton Towers opening times before your visit, as these do change during the year.
It’s impossible to list each of the rides – but here are a few of the best:
Nemesis is thought of as one of the best roller coasters in the UK, and indeed a recent survey rated it as number three in the world! It’s an inverted roller coaster (so you don’t sit down in it, and your legs swing free). With a maximum speed of 50mph, you’ll feel as much as 3.5g as you hurtle through the air, enjoying vertical loops, stall turns and more.
Air was the first Flying roller coaster anywhere – and you’ll feel like Superman as you fly face-down around the track. Air is a fantastic ride – quite unlike a traditional roller coaster, and is deservedly one of the most popular rides in the park.
Oblivion – the world’s first vertical drop roller coaster is quite different – it gives riders the opportunity to plummet 180 feet into a mysterious hole in the ground. Designed to be petrifying, it obviously succeeded, as local inhabitants took Alton Towers to court complaining about the screaming!
Whenever you choose to go – you’re sure to have a brilliant day at Alton Towers!.
